Our CD cover and Poster Finished Idea

Here is the final copy of our advertisement poster, we found it necessary to add the name of the single on the poster so that we can give the audience a chance to view the music video before buying the album as we found in our research that videos can influence whether or not our target audience purchases the album. The back to back images of the artist is to link with the music video about pretending to live two septate lives or wanting of the other, you can see the artist is a lot happier in the image where she is dressed in vintage clothes, this is the era or 'person' that she wants to be.There is also out finished album cover we have used this picture as we think it captures the innocence of the artist and also with her eyes clothes it shows that she is in a dream like state is the image you see in front of you reality or fantasy. The purple flower brings back the issue of innocence, we had done this to match the look of the vintage dress so that we can establish the character.
The collective images on the digipack are a play on the images of Anne Taintor as a group we had decided to get the message across of how much women have change from the 1950's to modern day . Taking her images with quotes underneath like 'it must be 5oclock somewhere' we have repeated that image but changed it slightly for modern day and wrote' who care its not 5oclock's if '

Final Cut

Here is the Final cut of our music video.

Locations and any other changes

We have changed our Actor and Actress from Naiym and Yianna to Darren an Kezia this is because of the time of our filming was more convenient for the second set and as they are both at the same standards of acting we decided it best to use Darren and Kezia.

Practice Shooting

We had practiced some of our scenes on the day before using our first choice for the acting artist, this was the day in which we found out what will work and what wouldn't on most of the scenes. This will then make it easier to know what to film and how.

Target Audience

Our target audience would be young adults. This is because that is her main audience and we think that this is the biggest audience to market our video towards. We find that her genre of music is one that our target audience likes. We had done research by handing out questionnaires and all of the people that we had fill them out where between the age of 14 and 16, as before we had conducted this research we had a larger target audience of between the age of 14 and 20. As we had made the audience on a tighter limit we then found it easier to aim our project in a certain direction focusing on what the people that had filled out the questionnaire had wanted, for example we had asked them what type of music they listen to so that it was easier for us to chose an artist. When we had found our answer to be Soul/Rn B we looked through the charts and on Google to find a artist that not only fit the target audience's genre but also  a song that isn't too mainstream as we wanted a fresh pallet and not fall into what we have already seen in that songs original music video.

Students Music Video (Goodwins Points)

I have found this video on YouTube to analyse using Goodwin's Points. The genre of this song would be Pop. It fits with this genre as there are scenes where she is singing and dancing along solo which is very common factor in pop videos. there was a relationship with the lyrics as it mentions about the day being the same old thing and we see her fast forwarding through her morning as if her day is that boring and similar that it flashes by very quickly. the music and visuals are connected because not just the female artist dancing to the beat of the song but the shots where also added in at the same speed as the song. There were a lot of close ups in this video showing off the artist as many times as possible to sell her to the audience. This video is very much like Rihanna's video 'Take a Bow' as there are parts where we see her singing in a black background and then we have her scenes of arguing in a voyeuristic manner which is what this video also showed.

Previous Music Video by Paloma Faith (Goodwins Points)

The music video went along with the style of the artist by the type of clothes she wears and also the fact that she is on a stage in the style of the 1950's era at one point where jazz/ soul was the popular type of music in that time. There are times in the songs where the lyrics do match the visuals where she says i am happy to deceive you she seems to turn from happy to sad at that moment showing that she is deceiving the audience. The movements in the video its self are very slow and to the rhythm of the song and matched with the feeling and sound of the song. The record label have not disregarded her quirky sense of fashion by having her dressed in clothes she would normal perform in with the same hairstyle so that her 'motif' is still being showed. Also we see a lot of close ups and poses that are similar to those used in on her original album. There is a voyeuristic treatment of the female body when she is sitting at her dressing table getting ready as we can see she doesn't want anyone to see her look upset as when other people come into the shot we see her change her expression. There was references from films where actresses such as Marylin Monroe has acted in as they have the same kind of stage style and dress, this video reminds me of her singing on stage which I think is the look she was going for.

A Similar Posted Video

We think this is like out idea as the male character has a dream like state throughout the video dreaming about something he wishes could actually happen to him, which is simialr to our idea of the female character in out video dreaming that her boyfriend could be more like the men in the 1950's

Contacting Paloma Faith

We had Posted a Message on Paloma Faiths fan website. As well as that we were lucky enough to know someone who is in contact with Paloma Faith herself and we were able to send a direct letter to her notifying her that we are making a video for her song 'Romance is Dead'

Analysis of Lyrics

Lyrics of Our song

Lyrics to Romance Is Dead :

The plastic flowers you gave for sit on the table so unstable
And there is some greasy finger prints on the pre-wrote birthday card you wrote your name in
And I know that you make your effort
But I think you could do much better

A rose is blue and violets red
Say it isn't true Don't tell me romance is dead
So wake up you sleepy head
All your dreams are just a kiss away...

I ask you for a letter so you emailed, Have we failed?
Oh, you kiss with such a potential,
Then ask to speed up
It's not enough
Now I am carrying my own bags up,
17 flights of stairs, love

A rose is blue and violets red
Say it isn't true, don't tell me romance is dead
So wake up sleepy head
Think of all the magic we could make
All your dreams is just a kiss away...

You shouldn't take just valentine day
Just to show you love me
You don't need any money,
Just abit of imagination

A rose is blue and violets red
You say it isn't true,
Don't tell me romance is dead
So wake up you sleepy head
Think of all the magic we could make
All your dreams is just a kiss away

All roses blue and violets red
You say it isn't true
Don't tell me romance is dead
So wake up you sleepy head
Think of all the magic we could make
[bis]
All your dreams is just a kiss away!

Location Photo's

We have chosen this location as it is best to use as it could be scene as both vintage and modern because of the decoration.
It is also the best place for all of those needed for the filming to get there.

Mood Board

Shot List

There is no dialogue in the video. There is lip syncing in some scenes along to the song but the main part of the video contains acting along to the song with no dialogue being heard. There is the fight scenes where we have decided to keep the sound of the fighting aloud so that we can gather that they are angry at each other and to give the video more depth.

Feedback

We had Handed out questionnaires to a group of 14-16 year olds of both genders we wanted to see

  1. What type of music they listen to?
  2. How much they would pay for an single?
  3. How much they would pay for an album?
  4. Whether or not they watched music channels?
  5. Would a good music video make them buy the single?
The most important question on the questionnaire was 'what type of music do you listen to?' this is because we needed to establish a target audience and what they listen to to make sure our video appeals to a mass market.
We had found that most of the results showed that they listen to music in the area of Rn B and Soul, looking at this information we have decided to make sure our artist falls into this category

Pitch Idea

Selling the artist:- The way we will sell our artist is by having her star in the story of our video as well as scenes of her singing so that the audience will know that she is also the performer and not just the actress.
Voyeurism:- In our video it is the idea of a failing relationship, throughout the video we see the couple ignoring each other, arguing and so on. To show the persona of our artist we wanted to add influences from the 1950's, we have done this by putting in scenes of how different there relationship might have been if they were in the 1950's.
Intertextuality:- We have taken the idea of our artist singing on the stage from one of Paloma Faith's videos she has already realised, do you want the truth or something beautiful is set on a stage with her singing in a elaborate background with the characteristics of the 50's. We thought that would be a good way to sum up our artist at the end so that the audience can see what kind of person our artist is.
Genre Characteristics:- We added the scene at towards the end of the video so that it would stick with a pop/ blues/ jazz/ soul kind of feel by having her singing on the stage for example if we look at Etta James she does this when she performs and also looking at more modern artist with a blues feel like Plan B we see that he also uses stages in his videos for when he is singing.
Visuals and Lyrics:- In our video we have subtle links to the lyrics through our visuals for example she talks about 'carrying her own bags up' we see that the 1950s man carries her bags up for her, we also have ' I asked you for a letter but you emailed' where we see her ripping up her letter she had written him the night before. these may not be direct links as they are not used in the same way in the song to our video but they still represent the similar theme.
Locations:- All of our video was filmed in one house to create a personal atmosphere with the audience towards the characters to create a stronger source of voyeurism.
Props:- We have to use a suitcases, letter, makeup, magazines, 1950's microphone and outfits, keys, pregnancy test, 1950's style living room, black and red curtains.
Casting:- We had needed two people for our video we had started with 4 people
                Yianna and Nayim
                Kezia and Darren
We had chosen to go with Kezia and Darren as Yianna and Nayim where unable to make the times in which we had planned on filming our video this had cause issues beforehand as we had filmed parts of our video with them before only for them not to be able to make it later on, this is when we had decided to use Kezia and Darren instead.
Effects and Editing:- For the scenes in which she dreams that she is in the 1950's we had decided to make a clear difference by slowing the scenes down slightly and changing the colouring and lighting on the clips. We had also decided that when she has pulled open the curtains that there will be a bright lighting into her singing on the stage.
Audience Attention:- We will keep the audience attention in the video by wondering what it is they are arguing about, why she was leaving and why they seem to be upset the audience will want to wait until the end to see what the conclusion is.
