Study of Music Videos

Katy Perry- Firework

Voyeurism:- The stories inside the music videos that are being told seem as if we aren't meant to be there, for example watching the two children watch there parents fighting.

Inter-textuality:- The video had taken some ideas from Christina Aguilera - Beautiful video but a lighter version and was kept more upbeat.

Selling the Artist:- At the start of the music we see a mid short of the artist, in her past videos we see her in skimpy wear and brightly coloured hair, we see a lot less of that in this video, she wears a floor length dress in the beginning like the company is going for a different look because the deeper meaning of the song. She still has streaks of bright colour in her hair.

Visuals and Lyrics/Music:- We see fireworks in the sky and coming out of the characters who 'stood up' for themselves as this is the name of the song. There is a line  'still a chance' and we see a young cancer patient sitting on a bed referring to the fact that there is still a chance for this girl. Further on in the video we see a woman playing a violin on the street along with the music.

Genre Characteristics:- There was a cause- effect motivation in this video as we see everyone upset in the beginning of the video and then in the end we see everyone happy. There was a scene at the end when there was a massive group of people dancing.

Mike Posner- Cooler than me

Voyeurism:- We see from the artist view every time he puts on a different pair of glasses everything that he see's this gives and impression of seeing something that we shouldn't. We also see a voyeuristic way of looking at women.

Inter-textuality:-

Selling the Artist:- He is on stage performing in the first part of the video then we see a voyeuristic part of him in a car going somewhere after his gig. We see in other parts of the video where he is on top of a roof singing parts of the song and the camera either followed behind the artist or in his view.

Visuals and Lyrics/Music:-  In the lift the camera looks down to see his brown shoes which he refers too in the chorus of his song. Also we see the main focus of the video is him looking through different peoples glasses to see what it is like to be them and this is also mentioned in the chorus.

Genre Characteristics:- There is a lot of party scenes and dancing, a lot of women in the video. The editing of the video nearer the end has been done to the beat of the song.
